This Christopher Nolan movie will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The intensity is amplified by the exceptional score. Although the characters in this movie are fictitious, the screenplay is based on true events; civilian boats were sent to help British soldiers pinned down at Dunkirk.
Nolan said '...We’re trying to create an experience that I talk about as being like virtual reality without the goggles.... We are giving people a white knuckle ride...' It truly captures the viewer's attention. Dunkirk is rated PG-13 for intense war experience and some language. It's a World War II movie, so there is violence, but none gratuitous. And you get a real feel for what it was like being there.
