This movie is rated PG-13. It contains violence, a lot of fighting. Hulk and Thor even fight each other. It’s an action/superhero movie. Fighting is expected. There is also some sexual innuendo. But most notably it was funny! Marvel continues to keep us intrigued by their stories, excited for what’s to come, and laughing throughout.

This is a story that has been told many times: Boy raised by mother, trying to find his place in the world, and not be associated with his villainous father.
Everyone is familiar with the Lego movies by now. Quirky, parody type movies that do more to make us laugh than to teach lessons. In this movie, Lloyd is a 16 year old high school student that is shunned by his peers because his dad is the Evil Warlord Garmadon. He is troubled by the antics of his father and by how his classmates respond, but he also has a secret...a secret identity. Ninjago is rated PG. It’s considered an action movie and has fight scenes. Jackie Chan, Dave Franco and Jason Theroux are the 3 most heard voices in the film. The story does involve an absentee father, so it may distress children that are in similar situations. Overall it’s a silly movie that does teach the viewers that it’s important to be true to yourself. It doesn’t matter who your friends or family are, you are your own person and you can be whatever you want to be. This one’s for the parents. Rated R | For Language Throughout, Drug Content, Sequences of Strong Violence and Some Sexual Material. This was an action packed comedy adventure! Anyone who watched the original Kingsmen: The Secret Service was looking forward to this sequel. Anyone that hasn’t seen the original...What are you waiting for?! Get out there and see it! Then watch the new one! You won’t be disappointed!
This time the independent international intelligence agency is decimated and the remaining members go to the United States for help from an allied organization, The Statesmen. The result is exciting and energetic fight scenes, the return of an old friend, and a partnership that promises to continue into the next movie. Overall this was a great movie, but again not one for the kids. The f-bomb is prevalent, we see drug use, sexual content is throughout and the violence is over the top. And Elton John... This Christopher Nolan movie will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The intensity is amplified by the exceptional score. Although the characters in this movie are fictitious, the screenplay is based on true events; civilian boats were sent to help British soldiers pinned down at Dunkirk.
Nolan said '...We’re trying to create an experience that I talk about as being like virtual reality without the goggles.... We are giving people a white knuckle ride...' It truly captures the viewer's attention. Dunkirk is rated PG-13 for intense war experience and some language. It's a World War II movie, so there is violence, but none gratuitous. And you get a real feel for what it was like being there. Spider-man: Homecoming follows Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, adjusting to how his life has changed following the events of Captain America Civil War. Peter has had a taste of what it means to be an Avenger and wants more.
Iron man makes appearances as Peter’s mentor throughout this lighthearted movie. We are also introduced to Ned who is Peter’s best friend and is played by Jacob Batalon. Ned helps Peter find the balance between fighting crime and high school drama. Homecoming was released July 7, 2017 and is rated PG. Violence should be expected with any action movie, but compared to other superhero action movies, this one is quite tame. Still if you have a child that doesn’t do well with fighting in movies, then don’t see this one in the theater. Peter Parker is our favorite nerd! He’s intelligent and trying to make good choices with the powers that he has been given, a great role model for kids. Be sure to pay attention to the shirts that he sports throughout the movie. Also, this is a Marvel movie, so be sure to watch all the way to the end of the credits for stingers! The newest addition to DC’s Extended Universe is the first female superhero major motion picture to be released in over a decade. Wonder Woman opens with Diana Prince, an Amazonian Princess played by Gal Gadot, receiving a photographic plate from Wayne Enterprises. A memory is triggered and we are transported back to WWI.
This is an origin story and tells how Wonder Woman came to be the superhero that we know and love today. The June 2017 release set records for the highest grossing woman-led comic book character movie. It also passes the Bechdel Test, a standard for women’s presence in works of fiction, showing that a woman doesn’t need a man to be a solid character. This has made a lot of women happy with the direction that filmmakers are taking in regards to women in movies. Wonder Woman is rated PG-13. There is violence, since it’s an action movie and set mostly during WWI. There’s also some suggestive content in regards to the relationship between Diana and Steve Trevor, played by Chris Pine. Gadot epitomizes a realistic and positive body image, while sporting a modernized version of her iconic costume. All in all we believe that this version of Wonder Woman is a good role model for women, and a great action hero for everyone! Terry and Meagan Saunders A mother and daughter team, lovers of the arts and residents of Castle Rock Released May 26th, 2017, this is a great addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean saga. We meet the next generation and get some interesting backstory for already loved characters. Dead Men Tell No Tales also sees the return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann and Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. It keeps you engaged and wondering throughout the entire picture. Those that are fans of Captain Jack Sparrow’s fun adventures on the high seas, will enjoy this movie! It is rated PG-13, so younger viewers may be bothered by partially formed humans/ghosts and the violence of some scenes. Also be sure to stay through the credits to view the short scene at the end.
My daughters and I are being published in a local periodical called Neighbors of Northeast Castle Rock. It's been our pleasure to do movie reviews every month. You will find those reviews here along with any others that we may wish to share. Please feel free to comment. I would love to get conversations going about these movies.
